| Who we are:
Kellie Ulrich
Kellie is all about having fun….with fashion, with family, with life! She also has a keen sense of what’s going on in the fashion world and was encouraged to enter the maternity market when her younger sister was pregnant and desperate for cute clothes. She put her creativity and drive to work and brought Urban Belly to Des Moines in September of 2005.
Kellie is currently a mother-to-be herself! She and her husband, Matt, are “expecting” two little girls from Guatemala . Going through the adoption process while being a maternity store owner made her realize that ALL becoming mothers could have fun with their wait! She introduced her Adoption Apparel line and is now clad in her own “Adoption Rocks” tee.
While not natives to Des Moines , both Kellie and Matt grew up in Iowa . Following college, they both moved to Denver where they met and married. They lived downtown and loved the city life of great restaurants, going to ballgames and walking the neighborhood with their dog, Sam. When they decided to move to Des Moines , the urban feel of the East Village really appealed to both and felt like the perfect home to Urban Belly.
Megan Geary
Megan loves to sport a funky bohemian look…..so when her pregnant belly got a bit too full for her breezy camis and flowy skirts, she was pretty bummed with the options. She felt she had to change her style for nine months. When Kellie mentioned the idea of starting a maternity boutique in Des Moines , Megan jumped onboard vowing never to compromise her fashion again!
Since Megan knows the ins and outs of pregnancy dressing firsthand, she helps bring in the styles that are both cute and functional! She is also great with advice on nursing attire and transitional clothing.
On her days away from the boutique, Megan entertains and is entertained by her son Ayden. She and her husband, Zach, are eating up Ayden’s interest in music as they still catch a few shows each year.
Ayden Geary
We refer to this little guy as our “urban baby.” Ayden was really the inspiration behind Urban Belly. His mommy was used to wearing funky little tunics and hippy-style low-riders before he started growing in her belly. He brought us to the realization that someone had to help her and others just like her find clothes to fill this nine-month-plus fashion gap. Hence, the birth of Urban Belly….and a few months later, Ayden Michael.
He continues to inspire and was our reason to carry little duds for our little dudes. He would have nothing to do with cute….he demanded edgy. He’s pretty innovative for an 18 month old. Watch for more to come from this little man. |
